Find the Right Block Print for Your Space

Craig Mitchell’s block prints are inspired by the landscapes of Nevada and the Sierra Nevada — quiet desert valleys, alpine lakes, and dramatic mountain light. Each print begins with a hand-carved block and is printed layer by layer in a limited edition.

If you're exploring Craig’s work for the first time, this guide will help you discover which landscape and print style might be the right fit for your space.

Choose the Landscape That Speaks to You

Different landscapes bring different moods into a room. Many collectors are drawn to artwork that reminds them of a place they love or a landscape that feels personally meaningful.

Why Collect Block Prints?

Block printing is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, and it remains one of the most hands-on artistic processes used by artists today.

Craig Mitchell creates his prints using traditional relief printmaking techniques, carving each image into linoleum blocks by hand. Many compositions require multiple blocks, with separate blocks carved for different colors or layers of the landscape.

Once the carving is complete, ink is rolled onto the raised surfaces of each block and paper is pressed onto the inked block to transfer the image. This process is repeated layer by layer until the full print is complete.

Because every impression is printed by hand, no two prints are ever perfectly identical. Slight variations in ink, pressure, and paper naturally occur, giving each piece its own subtle character.

Collectors are often drawn to block prints for this reason. The finished artwork reflects not only the landscape that inspired it, but also the physical process of carving, inking, and printing that brought the image to life.

Unlike digital reproductions or machine-made prints, Craig’s work is created entirely through hand tools, ink, and pressure. Each print carries the marks of the artist’s hand and belongs to a carefully produced limited edition.

Understanding Limited Editions

Craig Mitchell produces his block prints in carefully controlled limited editions.

This means that:

  • Only a specific number of prints are produced
  • Each print is individually numbered
  • The edition is not continually reproduced

Limiting the edition helps preserve the integrity of the artwork and ensures that each print remains part of a defined body of work created during a specific moment in the artist’s practice.

Many collectors appreciate the sense of intention and craftsmanship that comes with limited edition printmaking.

How Landscape Art Shapes a Space

Landscape art often works beautifully in interior spaces because it introduces depth, atmosphere, and a connection to the natural world.

Nevada and Lake Tahoe landscapes can create a calm, grounded feeling in a room while also bringing in color, light, and a sense of place.

Many collectors choose artwork that reflects landscapes they’ve visited, places they love, or environments that inspire a sense of openness and reflection.
