Tahoe Blues III
Rustic Tahoe
I've hiked past this tree on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe many times over the years. It's on the way to another destination, so each time I've thought I should go back just to paint or sketch the scene. For most artists who use Tahoe as a subject, it gets monotonous with the big, blue field of water and a steep, granitic foreground, but I've always fought the feeling, instead trying each time to discover a new way of seeing it. And each time that I achieve something of the sort, I wonder if another idea will spring to life. It always does. Ideas are infinite for the artist who chooses to make them so with no fear of failure. Because failure is a big part of it. Doing something meaningful in art, by starting with nothing and ending with something, failure usually disguises the solution behind the sentiment of defeat. Only when we look back objectively at a later date do we see it clearly. So, finally, after several attempts to make an artistic success out of this shoreline arrangement of elements, it has turned into one of my most colorful block prints. This one is done in eight blocks.
Unlike mass-produced reproductions involving commercial inks and machines, I mixed each color in Tahoe Blues III by hand and applied one at a time. It's printed on 100% cotton Rives BFK paper (made in France by Archees and prized by printmakers for its permanent qualities).
It includes conservation framing under regular glass, and it's ready to ship within 24 hours.
